Ernie Hershell Madrey Jr.

January 26, 1938 — May 9, 2020

Mr. Ernest Hershell Madrey Jr. “Ernie” passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at his home in Camden, TN. Mr. Madrey was born on January 26, 1938 in Camden, TN to the late Lona Smothers Madrey and Ernest Hershell Madrey. He was also preceded in death by an infant brother Dwayne Madrey. Mr. Madrey worked at Genesco, Consolidated Aluminum and I.M.C. Magnetics until their closings and then retired from the Camden Water Department. He was a member of Missionary Grove Baptist Church and the Camden Masonic Lodge 179 for over 50 years. He was also a former City of Camden Alderman.

Ernie loved coaching little league baseball in his younger days, as well as playing baseball and softball. He was an avid turkey and deer hunter and enjoyed hunting with his friends. He never meet a stranger, and if he did, they were usually soon friends. On two separate occasions, Ernie saved persons from drowning. He was always ready to help his friends and neighbors in any way he could.

Wife: Sue Johnson Madrey of Camden, TN.

Son: Kenny Madrey of Camden, TN.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 from 11:00 AM-1:30 PM at Stockdale-Malin Funeral Home in Camden. Due to recent CDC guidelines, visitors will be asked to pass by only for a short time and funeral home employees will assist in assuring distancing and the number of people in the chapel at one time is monitored.

Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at 2 PM at the Camden City Cemetery with Bro. Matthew Greer and Bro. Arzell Douglas officiating.
